Union Road Bridge Replacement Replacement Project
Construction is currently underway for the new Union Road Bridge which will consist of two lanes and accommodate both pedestrians and bicyclists. The complete bridge replacement will be located south of the existing bridge, requiring that the Union Road and San Benito Street intersection be moved south of its existing location.

Project Background
The Union Road Bridge Replacement Replacement Project is located just south of Hollister in unincorporated San Benito County. The project is located on Union Road, in between Cienega Road and San Benito Street, where Union Road crosses the San Benito River.
The new bridge will replace the existing bridge over the San Benito River and will accommodate two traffic lanes, as well as pedestrian and bicycle lane facilities. Union Road will be realigned to improve roadway curvature and traffic flow through this high-volume thoroughfare. San Benito Street will be reconstructed and extended to match the new intersection with Union Road, and Cienega Road will be realigned and widened to provide better sight distance and ease congestion through the intersection with Union Road. In addition to signs and striping, new signalized intersections will be built on Union Road at both Cienga Road and San Benito Street which will greatly improve traffic safety and mobility.
The existing Union Road Bridge will remain in service during the construction of the new roadway and bridge. After construction is completed and traffic is transferred to the new alignment, the existing bridge will be removed from the river channel, and the riparian habitat restored to its original condition.

San Benito County is happy to announce that the new bridge is open, and traffic has been redirected! The Union Road Bridge Replacement Project is now complete. A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated this vital achievement on Monday, March 17.
The new Union Road bridge significantly improves local transportation. County officials are delighted as it not only makes travel safer but also ensures a smoother traffic flow, relieving the daily commute for residents and businesses.
The County thanks MNS Engineers for their excellent project management and engineering work. Their hard work made this project possible. The County also appreciates all the subcontractors whose skill and commitment contributed to this success.
